WHY

Why is OTP setup required?

Over 90% of exchange account takeovers happen on accounts without two-factor authentication. Even if your email and password are exposed, an active OTP means withdrawals are impossible without the 6-digit code that changes every 30 seconds. It's the essential security layer for protecting your 5010 Quant 3.0 seed.

CRITICAL

Be aware before you start — backup key storage

The backup key (alphanumeric) issued during setup is the only way to access your account if you lose or break your phone. You must write it down and store it offline.

RecommendedSafe storage

Write on paper, store somewhere safe

AvoidNo digital storage

HOW TO

Setup steps

  1. 01

    Install the Google Authenticator app

Search "Google Authenticator" in the App Store or Google Play and install it. Make sure it's the official app published by Google.

    Note
You'll also see similar names like Microsoft Authenticator or Authenticator® — this 5010 guide is specifically for Google Authenticator.
  2. 02

Generate the OTP key on Gate.io

In the Gate.io app, go to security settings and generate a Google Authenticator key. Copy the unique key (alphanumeric) shown on screen.

  3. 03

    Add the key to Authenticator

Open Google Authenticator, tap the + icon at the bottom right, and choose "Enter a setup key". Enter the account name and key, then tap Add to register.

    TIP
If you use multiple exchanges, label the account clearly with "Gate.io" so you can find the code quickly later.
  4. 04

Enter the OTP code + email code

Back on Gate.io, enter the 6-digit OTP code from Authenticator. Then click Send to receive the 6-digit email code and enter it as well. Finally, press Enable Google Authenticator.

Enter the OTP code + email code
    TIP
The OTP code refreshes every 30 seconds. Submit before the timer expires — if it does, just use the next code shown.
  5. 05

    Verify activation

On the Security page, Google Authenticator should show as Enabled. Also confirm that your account security level has risen to Medium or higher.

    Verify activation
    Note
From now on, all important actions — withdrawals, security changes, API key issuance — will require the OTP code.

SETUP COMPLETE

All five steps are complete.

Your assets are now linked to 5010 Quant 3.0 and protected by two-factor authentication. You can monitor performance any time from Gate.io's Copy Trading menu.

CHECKLIST

All checked?

  • Installed the official Google Authenticator app (by Google)
  • Wrote the backup key on paper and stored it somewhere safe
  • Gate.io OTP is registered in Authenticator and refreshes every 30 seconds
  • Google Authenticator shows as Enabled on the Gate.io Security page

FAQ

Frequently asked

Use the backup key you stored during setup to register Google Authenticator on a new phone. If you don't have the backup key, you'll need to go through Gate.io customer support and identity verification (KYC resubmission, etc.) — recovery can take several days.
Most often this is a time-sync issue. Check that your phone time is set to automatic, and run "Time correction" in Google Authenticator settings. Also, the OTP refreshes every 30 seconds — if the timer expired right as you submitted, retry with the next code.
Technically yes, but not recommended. An account with deposited seed is itself a target for hackers. The safest order is to finish OTP setup before completing Step 4 (Connect Quant 3.0).
The safest method is writing it on paper and storing it offline — in a safe or lockable drawer. Cloud storage, email, and notes apps are vulnerable to hacking and not recommended. Writing the same key on two separate pieces of paper and storing them in different places is also a good practice.
